Gurukrupa Residential Special School was founded on June 14, 2012, under the leadership of Mr. Jignesh Thakkar, a Karate expert and Special Education expert from Anand, Gujarat.

The school caters to children and youth with Intellectual Developmental Delay, offering Special Education for those below 18 and vocational training for those above 18.

Initially, the school had only two students, one in day care and one in the residential program. The residential sector was established to promote overall development and independence.

Mr. Jignesh Thakkar created a new direction by giving employment opportunities to trained youth with Intellectual Development Delay.

Mr. Jignesh Thakkar's research revealed that most schools in Gujarat only catered to children between 5-18 years, with few vocational training centers for youth above 18.
